Whereas belting out your off-key version of "Don't Stop Believin'" while in a state of intoxication in public is enough to get you thrown in the pokey in most civilized countries, when it's karaoke night, such behavior is actually encouraged. McB's is a restaurant and bar dining experience. They are noted for their burgers but everything on the menu is worth a taste. Tuesday and Thursdays enjoy dinner, drinks and your favorite song during karaoke night.They have an array of music playing which accommodates the diverse crowd. They feature live entertainment on weekends only. Besides drinks there are pool tables and video games to keep you entertained.

Neighborhood: Belhaven

Fenian's brings the taste of Ireland to Jackson's Belhaven neighborhood. It can be a happening bar packed full on some nights or a perfect place to go hide, sit and drink a warm stout, cold lager or any liquor drink for that matter. Fenian's has live music every night with no cover, with karaoke on Mondays, open mic on Tuesdays and live bands ranging from acoustic rock to traditional Irish folk Wednesday through Saturday. People go for the bar and the intimate atmosphere. Fenian's also serves lunch and dinner with an abundant selection of Irish delicacies like Boxty (Irish potato pancakes) and Irish stew. They have a great Halloween costume party/contest and are closed on Sundays. A must try when looking for a place to go on any night of the week.

Martin's

Neighborhood: Commerce Street/Old Capitol Green

Located across from Hal and Mal's, Martin's always delivers with an anti-mainstream plethora of bands that are well worth the $5-$10 cover. Established in 1953 and open since, Martin's takes pride in not being a upscale, pinky-raised martini bar, but a little rough around the edges with a truckload of character. A landmark ladies night with $5 all you can drink wells, wine and beer make every Wednesday special. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights always promise a good crowd out for the live music. Martin's also serves lunch and early dinner during the week with a famous buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The after-work crowd are what make Martin's the self-proclaimed "adult day-care" with the younger set turning out for the 10 p.m. shows.

You just can't keep a good bar downGeorge Street Grocery, the historic Jackson watering hole that was first actually a grocery after opening in 1911 and then became a live music destination in the '70s and '80s,finally reopened in December 2008 after shutting its doors in 2007. Well sort, of. The historic hangout has been revamped and reborn as Ole Tavern on George Street. The name's not all that's new, as the place now has a younger vibe and a more rock 'n' roll attitude, as evidenced by the inaugural concert featuring local rock bands Goodman County, Deltagun and Redneck Trucker on New Year's Eve '08. With bars both downstairs and upstairs (where the bands also play), and much of the buidling's original fixtures intact, it's the bar longtime Jacksonians know and love too though. The kitchen serves daily plate lunches like meatloaf, fried catfish and red beans and rice for $7.99 and also has a full menu of appetizers, salads and sandwiches, with unique offerings like Southern Pecan beer-battered onion rings, pimiento cheese fritters, the ole Tavern burger and more.

You might encounter almost anything at Pops Saloon, from driving country music toon one infamously surreal occasion during the Melton Administrationthe mayor of Jackson dancing unsteadily to On the Road Again as performed by a local country band. Beyond that, its your standard honky-tonk the one your parents warned you about.
