A great band, two tragic stories
For Seattle rockers Alice in Chains, success has come with a high price. Two of the band's original four members—singer Layne Staley (seen here third from the left) and bassist Mike Starr (second from left)—have died tragically young, Staley in 2002 of a drug overdose, Starr just this past Tuesday (March 8) of a suspected overdose.
Here's a look back at the many career ups and downs of a band that, despite the adversity, continues to be one of the most popular and respected hard rock acts in the business.
