British punk/pop/soul trio the Noisettes made a few waves with their 2007 debut album, "What's the Time Mr. Wolf?" But they seem poised to go positively stratospheric with their sophomore set, "Wild Young Hearts," already a hit in the U.K. and due out Stateside this September on Mercury Records. Taking the stage (and, at one point, the bar) at legendary L.A. club Spaceland for a packed Wednesday night show, singer-bassist Shingai Shoniwa (who can belt like a punkier—and more coherent—Amy Winehouse) and her bandmates were on fire from the very first note, making the hipsters shimmy in their skinny jeans to infectious new tunes like "Don't Upset the Rhythm" and old favorites like "Scratch Your Name." The U.K. Guardian is already crowning Noisettes "the best live band in Britain"—and although British music critics are prone to hyperbole, for once they may not be too far off.
