Who doesn’t like dinner and a show?

That is the lagniappe of Burgers & Blues — just about every time I have come in there, I got a free concert out on the deck. As in, no cover charge. Guys, this is something to think about when planning a date. And ladies, this makes for a fun girls’ night out. Heck, take the kids out to the deck for a family night. I believe I have been a part of just about all those outings there at one time or another, and each time was fun, affordable and pretty tasty.

They don’t just have burgers at Burgers & Blues. One of my crew bragged about their chili, and you can get chicken, salads and other kinds of sandwiches. But you know, if “burgers” is the first word of their name, that might tip you off that their burgers are worth a try. I like building mine from scratch, picking the bread, the size of the patty, the toppings and the sides, freestyle. That one will set you back $5.99 for the 4-ounce patty plus the sides, drink and some of the toppings, such as bacon, are a little extra but totally worth it.

Of course, if you want to have your brush with fame, take the Whammy Challenge, as seen on The Travel Channel show, “Man vs. Food.” Three 1-pound patties, a pound of french fries and an IBC root beer float. Believe it or not, there are people in the metro area who have won this by polishing off the Whammy in 30 minutes or less. To put this in perspective, I have a family of five when everyone is home, and I don’t cook that much meat for a dinner for all five of us. This is a crazy amount of hamburger.

Crazy good, though, if it’s like the 4-ounce one I like, with mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup and pickles and a side of sweet potato fries, served up out on the deck with a bluesman playing a Howlin’ Wolf cover.
