C’Paw’s Webster House is located in a wonderful old home right off I-20 and Greenfield Road in Pearl. Owners Claley and Rita Webster are not new to the restaurant business as they formerly owned Ole Hickory BBQ restaurants in Richland and Florence.

Their formula for pleasing customers is evident as soon as you walk in the doors with their great personality, fine wait staff and the palpable homeyness of the old dwelling they converted into their restaurant.

They opened the Webster House in August of 2005 right before Hurricane Katrina and thankfully weathered the storm, and now have a tremendous following with newcomers coming in for some delicious eats every day. Their traditional barbecue, hand cut steaks and other offerings are sure to please with a very reasonable price tag attached.

The food: C’Paw is definitely a culinary natural with his on site smoked meats—the barbecue ribs are fall-off-the-bone good and as a special treat you can order a rib to complement any dish. You will be served up a nice pitcher of sampling sauce upon your arrival as you make the difficult decision as to what to try first.

Plenty of appetizers wait to whet your appetite with cheese sticks, cheddar poppers, onion rings, chicken tenders, shrimp cocktail, a sampler platte and the cheese and sausage platter. Be sure to use plenty of the dipping sauce with everything as it is some of the best we have found.

Their salad offerings are a definite winner with the smoked meats available as toppings. All of their dressings are homemade and delicious. The smokehouse salad is topped with your meat choice, while C’Paw’s steak and bleu is full of char grilled steak and sprinkled with abundant bleu cheese.

We decided not to pass up Rita’s famous chicken salad that was out-of-this-world good made with smoked chicken, grapes and pecans on a bed of lettuce and seasonal fruits. It was our lunch the next day and was just as deliciously tasty, while the fried chicken tender salads we saw others ordering looked pretty darn good as well.

Now for the really hearty good eats: their steaks are served up with two sides and a sourdough yeast roll. Ribeyes, filets, and prime rib come in three sizes and are fresh off the grill and cooked to perfection.

The sirloin for two was mighty tempting but we might have not been able to have dessert so we chose a rib eye and of course ribs. The side items abound with traditional baked beans, slaw, corn on the cob, steamed veggies, baked potato, twice baked, baked sweet potato, just to scratch the made-from-scratch surface. Our choices of green beans with almonds and sautéed spinach were divine.

C’Paw has definitely got the slow smoked and glazing skill of ribs down as they were deliciously presented and you can choose between dry or sassy sauces. We tend to like the dry rubbed style yet the sauce was pretty incredible.

They also offer a char broiled tilapia for the fish lover and others around us were raving over the taste. The menu rounds out with ten platter offerings of ribs, beef, pulled pork, chicken, sausage, shrimp or combination platters. Sandwiches, po-boys and burgers are also available and you will want to go back again and again to try all their offerings for sure.

I cannot leave out the homemade desserts as making a decision with my companion was too difficult for sharing so we opted for the lemon iced box pie, which made us feel we were at a family reunion good. Pam’s honey hush pie is quite well known and worth every delicious bite. Other desserts include fresh baked apple pie, banana pudding, chocolate chess and pecan pies. Thankfully their dessert items can be purchased to go or you can order a whole pie with a little notice.

The drink: Plenty of fresh brewed sweet or unsweetened tea as well as soft drinks, lemonade, milk, coffee and hot chocolate can be found. A nice cup of coffee with one of the desserts will certainly end your dining experience to perfection. No booze is to be found, but beer and wine would shatter the place’s down-home, Sunday dinner at the grandfolks atmosphere anyway.

The scene: The home was built in 1903 and the décor is tastefully done with plenty of quaint seating for a special dining experience or large tables for dining with friends. They also have an upstairs dining area conference room for special meetings and also have an area for larger parties or rehearsal dinners.

You will feel right at home with the expert wait service and prompt attention by every employee. They have a catering business as well and can accommodate most any function. If you are in need of a casserole, entrée or dessert, they can prepare a wonderful meal to meet your needs with advanced notice so just give them a call when in need of a great meal on the go.

The bottom line: The Websters know how to make a restaurant dining experience be an enjoyable one and are definitely aiming to please each and every diner.

The old home is perfectly arranged for diners and the service and of course the food is some of the best we have found. They definitely are in the restaurant business for all the right reasons of caring for their customers, love of their business, making you feel welcome by bringing wholesome food to everyone they serve.

C’ Paw’s is a definite must-try restaurant and you will want to go back again and again, I know we will be returning really soon. I think I have a craving for more.
