New China Buffet is located in the Jacksonian Plaza in North Jackson in a nice new strip mall area off the I-55 Frontage Road. This is the second location of New China following their original location in Byram. They specialize in authentic eastern cuisine at their large buffet and from the menu with plenty of combinations to choose from. This is not your ordinary buffet establishment as they have really set a high standard at a very reasonable price.

The food: You will find their menu very pleasing with over 30 selections of sushi and sashimi as well as hand rolls made to order. There are plenty of hot food dishes including appetizers, beef and chicken teriyaki, tempura, gyoza dumplings, mussels and plenty of Alaskan snow crab legs, shrimp, oysters and a variety of baked fish. We enjoyed the wide selection of salads, fruit and plentiful desserts to complete our dining experience.

We decided to try out the lunch buffet that was very reasonably priced at $7 with an abundance of offerings including the salad and dessert bars. At night the price jumps up just a couple of bucks and includes more seafood items which also include crab legs.

They offer 10 appetizers, seven soups, fried rice, egg foo young, chicken, beef, shrimp, and sweet and sour pork dishes from the menu or on the buffet as well as an array of vegetables, a special diet menu and plenty of a la carte rolls. When ordering the Sushi, you will receive two pieces per order and can choose from salmon, tuna, red snapper, shrimp, crab, octopus, eel or salmon roe. This is the place to be as you won’t go away hungry or disappointed in the selections.

They have plenty of chef specialties of pork, chicken, scallops and lots of combination plates featuring the great Chinese and Japanese influence if you want to forego the buffet and order from the menu.

The drink: You can choose from iced tea, soft drink, juices and adult beverages to complement your meal, with free refills on your tea or soft drinks. We didn’t go for any of the adult libation as it was during lunch hour, however for another dinner visit we just might partake.

The scene: A very casual dining experience with plenty of wide open space accommodates their three hot bar stations, a dessert and salad bar and a sushi bar area as well. Seating is ample and a bustling steady stream of hungry diners come and go to refill their plates as they enjoy the huge selection and all you can eat offerings. There are plenty of tables and booths and several flat screen televisions situated nicely for catching up with the news or sporting events.

The bottom line: New China is not your ordinary Chinese buffet-style establishment. They have definitely developed a high standard for their customers. You will receive plenty of table service and refills of your beverage as well as great and timely removable of your plates as you make a trip back to one of the bars for more. They have a unique concept, two metro area locations and are definitely aiming to please with their ultimate sushi and Chinese items. You will definitely want to go back many times to take in all there is to enjoy.
