Review: Osaka Japanese Steakhouse

Osaka Japanese Restaurant, located on Lakeland Drive in Flowood in a strip mall behind the Park Place theater, is a great place to stop after shopping at Dogwood or on your way to and from the airport.

Tommy So, the owner, has brought a variety of Japanese fare to the metro area with a great menu selection. They also have a large catering menu and offer a la carte take out orders of sushi, cooked rolls, uncooked rolls, salads, sashimi and other dining specials.

The scene: Osaka is a casual dining restaurant with a great variety of Japanese offerings sure to please the ethnic food lover.

The restaurant is divided into two areas. One area is regular seating for ordering off the menu and the other is for the hibachi grill.

There are three hibachi chefs working most of the time, especially during busy times, but one grill is always open.

The décor is typical of the Japanese atmosphere with wall art and furnishings true to the culture.

The food: Osaka offers over 25 appetizer dishes, four soups, four salads, as well as 16 dinners from the kitchen and a la carte items as well. They serve lunch and dinner with a daily special each day.

At the hibachi grill your offerings include chicken, steak, seafood, vegetables and combination dishes, all served up in style from their experienced hibachi chefs. Sushi and Samurai specials are available every day.

Osaka also offers many side items to add to your meal that can be cooked at your table or around the hibachi grill. They offer several types of specialty ice cream dishes, as well as Japanese pudding to finish off your meal.

Their entrees range from $7-$20 for most dishes while their lunch is in the $8-$12 range. Catering and take out items vary upon amount and selection.

The drink: Osaka is an alcohol-free establishment but has a large selection of soft drinks, iced tea, green tea, juice and a special Japanese Sprite for your enjoyment. Free refills are available on most drink items.

The bottom line: There are not that many good Japanese style restaurants that offer the friendly, well staffed, enjoyable dining experience you will find at Osaka.

They are ready to serve your needs with a great lunch, take out, catering or a relaxing hibachi grill show with delicious ingredients and tasty rolls, sushi, and desserts.

We really were impressed with the service, the attention and the overall feel of the restaurant, and the staff really is aiming to please each and every guest with a memorable dining experience.
