Reed Pierce’s is a perfect establishment if you are looking for a great gathering spot with friends. The casual, laid back and relaxing atmosphere during the day turns into a dinner and sports bar hot spot at night.

The restaurant is owned and operated by 1995 U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion Reed Pierce and his brother Ronnie, both Jackson natives. The duo envisioned an upscale billiards bar, with tournament-quality pool tables and a well-stocked —with the added amenity of a full-service restaurant with an elegant menu that goes above and beyond the usual bar fare.

With plenty of room, a great outdoor patio with cabana style seating and a tiki bar, it’s great for enjoying your favorite adult beverage while soaking up some live music on the weekends after a great meal. It’s one-stop shopping for dinner, drinks and entertainment.

The food: During the lunch hours from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday you will find a buffet style array of fresh vegetables, salad selections, rolls, cornbread and a variety of meat items featuring different veggies and meats each day. Your choice of a meat and two veggies comes with tea and dessert for a paltry $6.54. It would be hard to find a better lunch for your money anywhere else.

They kick it up a notch at night with burgers, wraps, poboys and several salad offerings. The RP’s come back dressing is pretty darn good and is just one of a wide assortment of other dressings for your salads ($7.99-$9.99).

Bar-style appetizers abound to get your night started with fried mozzarella sticks, their Nine Ball Nachos, homemade onion rings, fried pickles, fried crab claws, wings, a sampler platter, spring rolls or crispy chicken tenders.

If you are looking for one of the best steaks around, their stock yard steaks are a definite must try entrée with your choice of fries or baked potato and a side salad. The Pierce filet is a delicious 8-oz. hand cut filet cooked to order and seasoned to perfection. The surf and turf features an 8-oz. filet with six gulf shrimp either grilled or fried, but the best value for the hungry eater is the 18-20 oz. cowboy rib-eye which will make your mouth water before the first bite ($31-$37.99).

Their seafood selections are some of the freshest available in the Byram area with offerings of jumbo shrimp, fried oysters, catfish, Reed’s three combo platter, or their fresh catch of the day featured daily ($12.99-market price).

There’s also more variety to the menu: the pasta alfredo of grilled chicken or shrimp is served up with a nice heap of sauce over fettuccine. The house special is a plate-sized hamburger steak grilled and covered with brown gravy and onions. Red beans and rice rounds out their entrees to perfection.

Save a little room for dessert as you will find some pretty mean brownie bites a la mode for that chocolate lover, cheesecake and key lime pie.

The drink: Reed Pierce’s is a full service bar with plenty of domestic and import beers, a fully stocked liquor bar with specialty drinks as well as wine by the glass or the bottle. They have happy hour daily from 4-7 p.m. and ladies night each Thursday with additional drink specials every night of the week.

Adult beverages are not sold at lunch time so be sure to come back after 1 p.m. to play a little pool and stay around for dinner. The large outdoor patio features a tiki bar and you will have table side service inside and outside as their great wait staff are aiming to please. Iced tea, soft drinks and coffee as well as plenty of after-dinner liquors are also available.

The scene: An upscale billiards sports bar greets you as you walk in the door. The restaurant and bar is situated toward the back of the 6,000-sq. ft. building so don’t worry about finding a place to dine. At lunch there is a steady stream of area diners indulging in their great buffet.

The front of house features 8 professional size billiard tables and the restaurant and dance floor are separated by a high bar with great seating. On Friday and Saturday nights live music kicks off around 9 p.m. and the dance floor comes alive.

The bottom line: Reed Pierce’s is open 7 days a week and features daily specials which the wait staff will patiently tell you about as well as a large chalk board easily situated if you are having trouble making your dining choice. The wide range of offerings is a must try and you won’t be disappointed or go away hungry.

The food is served to perfection, deliciously seasoned and the table service is some of the best in the metro area. Great food, great service, great fun definitely goes well with their logo of “Eat, Drink, Play!” for that is exactly what you will enjoy as soon as you step in the door.
