Rooster’s restaurant is located in the heart of the great Fondren district of Jackson.  The restaurant is situated in the front corner of a great old remodeled building that also houses many unique shops and businesses. Whether you are in need of a quick call-in order for the office or want to gather with co-workers or friends, there is plenty of seating inside and outside as well as along the hallway of this bustling hot spot.

The food: The Rooster burgers are an absolute must try and come in a 6-ounce and an 8-ounce size. All are served with all the trimmings and a choice of homemade white, wheat or jalapeno cheddar buns. The burger features are a regular burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheese, mushroom and Swiss, or a jalapeno cheeseburger ($4.95-$6.50).

Their great chicken sandwiches are also hard to beat with choices of grilled chicken, fried chicken, chicken club, chicken mushroom Swiss, or chicken jalapeno ($5.50-$5.85).

A wide assortment of sides to go along with your sandwich or burger includes curly fries, onion rings, salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, green beans, baked beans, rice and gravy, and mac and cheese.

The salads are great and you have a choice of fried or grilled chicken or a regular house salad (for that lighter meal especially at lunch time) with plenty of homemade dressings.

Every day you can get a plate lunch or dinner of hamburger steak, steak parmesan, country fried steak, chicken tenders or red beans and rice, and each is served with a couple of sides of your choice ($8.85).

They have a kids menu and a couple of desserts to finish off your meal just right. Don’t pass up the homemade banana pudding as it’s some of the best around town.

The drink: They serve iced tea, sweet or un-sweet with free refills as well as plenty of soft drinks, coffee and juices, and the wait staff will be happy to come by and refill your beverage. You can also use the self serve counter and even take some along with you.

The scene: There’s plenty of tables with lots of window seating and open spaces, or you can sit outside and enjoy the great weather while watching the bustling Fondren district traffic. There are also tables situated in the hallways of the main floor of the Fondren building where your wait staff will find you and bring your order to your table. If you feel like doing a bit of unique shopping there are plenty of shops to stroll through. You will find yourself quite relaxed and feel right at home as you enjoy some good eats at a very reasonable price.

The bottom line: Rooster’s is just one of three restaurants in the area owned by native Jacksonian and chef Nathan Glenn, and being his first venture, the one that cemented his reputation.

He has a knack for bringing in just the right mix of great food and friendly atmosphere that Jackson folks enjoy and flock to. His commitment to the area has really helped boost the area and he continues to find initiative ways of offering something for everyone for an enjoyable dining experience.

You need only one bite of their excellent burgers or chicken sandwiches to know why Rooster’s is a local staple.
