Salsa’s Grill and Mexican restaurant has been a favorite of locals and area and diners for more than 5 years. They have a huge following especially at lunch with their special $5.49 lunches. At night they offer Happy Hour starting at 4:00 until closing with many 2 for 1 specials. That is hard to beat around the metro area. They are locally family owned and operated and offer authentic Mexican cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere with real Mexican chefs cooking up the great food.
The Food
As with many Mexican establishments the menu is quite expansive with well over a hundred items. Just at lunch alone there are 16 specials with tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, relieno, flauta, and many combo dishes. They have a lunch punch card if you dine with them 9 times the 10th visit is free so that keeps their customers coming back day after day especially with so many options. At night you can find fajitas, plenty of combo dishes, mariscos, appetizers, desserts and an array of a la carte and side dishes to complement your meal. Their dips consist of bean, guacamole, cheese, and are all worthy especially with the endless chips and salsa that the wait staff makes sure you have. Their chimichangas are our personal favorite with choices of chicken, beef or shrimp or combo them up for a definite filling meal with refried beans and rice. Another favorite is sharing a piping hot skillet of fajitas of chicken, steak, shrimp, sausage, and veggies of squash, zucchini, onions, bell peppers and all the trimmings. We can get by with a single serving by ordering an extra side of tortillas. For a mere $10 you will be quite full with the addition of the chips, dips and drinks. We also enjoy the combination dinners where you can mix and match tacos, enchiladas, burritos, or chalupas. All dinners are served with beans and rice and many come with lettuce and tomato salad sides for $6.99.
If you are really hungry try one of their specialty plates served on a hot skillet with offerings of steaks, tacos, chicken (grilled or fried), shrimp, beef, sausage, and just about any other cuisine you can think of with so many entrees to choose from. I would suggest a bit of sharing as it will take multiple visits to find your favorite dishes with such a large menu that’s so reasonably priced. There is not one item over $20 so that in itself is a reason to stop by and give them a try.
They also offer great salads with eight offerings all under $7.00 featuring taco salads, chicken, fajita beef, fajita chicken, shrimp, breaded chicken, guacamole or a regular tossed salad with lots of dressing selections.
The kids or non Mexican eater won’t go away hungry as they have a nice regular menu of cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, chicken strips and French fries and will be happy to add or delete anything you want on your dishes. For the vegetarian diner there is a separate menu section featuring eight offerings filled with cheeses, broccoli, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, squash and spinach. So no one should shy away from Salsa’s as they are always aiming to please and add some special menu items daily that include fresh catch fish as well as the chef’s special of the day. If you possibly have room try an after dinner drink with some flan, sopapila with ice cream, banana fried ice cream, three layered milk cake, (yummy good), strawberry or chocolate cake.
The Drink
They are a full bar establishment with plenty of mixed drinks, delicious margarita’s of every flavor, domestic and import beer and wines. You will also find plenty of iced tea, soft drinks, coffee and juices that are standard at most eateries. They run Happy Hour from 4:00 pm until closing every day except Sunday when they cannot serve alcohol in Clinton. The beer is always nice and cold, comes in several sizes and the bar is great for sitting back and relaxing with friends or catching some of the sports events on the large screen televisions.
The Scene
There is plenty of onsite parking and the restaurant is large with three separate dining areas as well as a nice side porch that has been enclosed for the perfect large gathering spot. The bar area has table and bar seating as well as the tables and booths situated throughout the restaurant. The décor takes you straight to a Mexican cantina with great Mexican art and décor in a festive atmosphere with lots of festive colors, wooden booths and comfortable seats. They are always filled up with the MC students and locals’ yet finding a table isn’t hard being such a large establishment. They will also reserve an area for you if you are looking for a nice meeting place, party or get together with friends or family.
The Bottom Line
Expansive menu, delicious cuisine, reasonable prices, good adult beverages, family friendly and downright comfortable is exactly what you will see as you walk in their doors. You are quickly greeted, seated and next thing you know their quick wait staff is taking your drink order as they deliver the hot tortilla chips and salsa as you take a few minutes to go over the huge menu to find your favorite. They are very supportive of the community and are always helping make their diners feel welcomed. If you haven’t yet been in be a little adventurous and try something different as they definitely have plenty to tickle your palate with.
