Two Sisters Kitchen located on Congress Street in a home dating back to 1902 has been a metro favorite since 1989. They have received many accolades for their fresh home cooked Southern eats and most recently was voted “Best Fried Chicken” by Taste of the South.

The Food

Of course the southern fried chicken is their mainstay on their daily buffet line and if you have not tried it then you are in for a treat as they take great care in the preparation of the batter and it is perfectly  fried, it’s a little on the peppery side yet that just adds to the flavor. They feature baked chicken and several other meats each day with catfish, poppy seed chicken, baked chicken, country fried steak and more. Holding true to the south, the vegetables are always on the line with turnip greens, peas, rice, green beans, squash, cabbage, okra, corn, potatoes, and seasonal specials daily. The salad bar is always a sure bet with fresh lettuce and plenty of toppings to make your salad just the way you like it. They bake some delicious angel biscuits and cornbread to complement every bite of your meal. For your sweet ending one of the servers will come to your table after your multiple trips to the buffet and tell you about the desserts. Usually they will offer a dessert of the day yet the banana pudding or the bourbon bread pudding is hard to pass up and is our choice on each visit.

The Drink

The regular array of soft drinks and coffee are available yet if you pass up on some of their delicious sweet iced tea you are missing out on a favorite of the good ole south, as it’s not too sweet but just right. The staff will be happy to refill your beverage as often as you need and you will be thirsty for more.

The Scene

Two Sisters sits in the heart of the downtown Jackson metro area and being in an old home you might just past by it if you aren’t familiar with the area. Then again, just check out all the cars parked on the street and in the parking lot and then you will know where all the hungry eaters are. They have revamped the interior to include all the rooms of the old home. So you might be sitting in the former parlor, bedroom, library or climb the stairs and catch a great view of downtown Jackson while you dine. The décor could use some updating yet that is part of the ambiance of their mission. Good food, relaxing atmosphere, and friendly folks. If you want to get your meal to go the staff will assist you with maneuvering through the buffet and as long as you can close the lid you can stack up all the vittles you can handle and feast away. They have a nice outside porch for the great weather dining days.

The Bottom Line

Two Sisters is a long time staple of downtown Jackson that continues to please the locals as well as making a name for themselves around the state, the south and now receiving awards from around the nation for their superb service and consistent food offerings. If you haven’t been by in a while be sure to take a little time and enjoy some of their delicious food and southern hospitality as you will not be disappointed by all they have to offer.
