Tye's, located in the newly renovated Plaza Building, is a small, cozy establishment serving lunch and dinner 5 days a week Monday-Friday.
Serving delicious appetizers as well as full course lunch and dinner, Tye’s is a great lunch destination if you are downtown, as well as after work hours for dinner and drinks.
The food: The menu covers American and Cajun influenced appetizers and entrees as well as a daily lunch special. The lunch menu offers a variety of sandwiches.
Also offered is a wide variety of salads ranging from a classic Greek salad ($8) to a delicious salad covered with lightly fried crawfish tails on a bed of iceberg lettuce with cheese, tomatoes and onion.
The lunch menu offers a variety of sandwiches ranging from a basic grilled chicken sandwich ($7) to the “Paulo” crab cake sandwich ($10). All sandwiches are served with your choice of house salad, pasta salad or onion rings. The onion rings are very lightly battered and fried just right for a side dish that also comes as an appetizer—they are that good!
The seafood toast is an unusual appetizer that is one of the best I have had in a long time. It is served on a piece of French bread with a mix of lightly fried crawfish, shrimp and crab.
Lunch po-boys stand up to any I have eaten recently—everything is lightly fried to perfection and served on toasted French bread. You have your choice of tilapia, shrimp and oyster all priced at a reasonable $8 each with a side. The daily lunch special at $9 includes 2 sides and choice of drink.
Dinner service offers a range of pastas, beef, chicken and seafood ($12-$24). The staff was extremely knowledgeable about anything being served and will easily match what you are hungry for to an entrée you won’t soon forget.
For dessert, try one of the many choices, along with a fresh cup of coffee.
The drink: Tye’s offers a wide selection of cocktails, as well as an extensive wine list. Iced tea and soft drinks are also available. Ask your waiter for full info on the wine list.
The scene: Located on the bottom floor of the Plaza Building, when you walk in Tye’s feels like a neighborhood bar and eatery. The bar is a mixture of deep reds and modern furniture to make everyone feel welcome and right at home. Lunchtime brings many of Jackson’s downtown workforce, along with others who have heard of the food and make the trip downtown. Nighttime transforms into a young professional crowd. Keep an eye out for cocktail parties held frequently on Thursday nights.
The bottom line: Tye’s is a great stop for lunch in the downtown area for a “fine dining” lunch experience. Nighttime is a great place to mix with and meet Jackson’s up and coming professional workforce. With a great mix of food, drink and people, Tye’s is a stop downtown that should not be missed.
