Wynndale Steakhouse, which sits at the intersection of Springridge Road and Terry Road, offers up some of the best steaks around.
Wynndale is family owned and operated with a tradition of excellence for great food and great service. Troy, Ellen and Scott Welch have been perfecting and serving up that smokehouse flavor since November 1990. You can just come as you are and feast in an array of offerings in their down home setting and relaxing atmosphere.
The food: Start out with one of their appetizers of stuffed jalapeno with shrimp, onion blossom, cheese sticks, or the fried dill pickles, which is one of our favorites.
The sampler platter is great for a group, or a grilled shrimp skewer of 10 shrimp is good for a light meal with a salad from their salad bar. The fried green tomatoes are also a treat and all appetizers are within the $4 -$11 range.
All of their barbecue is slow-smoked over hickory and seasoned just right. Offerings include a full rack or a half rack of delicious, melt-in-your-mouth ribs, sausage plates, combo plates and more.
Steaks and seafood are their other entrée offerings that can’t be beat for the price or their wonderful flavor.
If you like beef, they’ve got it all—shish kebabs, New York strip, filets, sirloins, porterhouses, rib-eyes, T-bones, hamburger steak and country fried steak.
Their seafood entrees are fried oysters, fried shrimp, grilled or stuffed shrimp, catfish, a seafood platter or steak and shrimp. Prices range from $11-$32 depending on the cut of meat or seafood dishes. A nightly feature is also available on their chalkboard.
Our personal favorite is the 32-ounce sirloin for two. Order an extra side dish and a trip to the salad bar and sit back and enjoy some of the best steak you can find anywhere.
All their items are seasoned with special sauces and are cooked over live hickory wood and charcoal that you can smell as you are driving up.
If you can possibly handle a dessert, sharing might be the best decision as their cheesecake, homemade peach cobbler, pecan pie, or French silk pie with a cup of coffee is a definite treat to the end of your meal.
Wynndale also does a big take out business and offers fried turkeys ($32.95), smoked turkeys ($31.95) and hams (3.98/lb). You can even bring your own turkey to be smoked or fried for a $9.50 charge.
The drink: A variety of canned and bottled beer is available and you can “brown bag” your wine or liquor. They also have the requisite soft drinks, tea and coffee.
The scene: A laid-back, casual atmosphere awaits you with some of the best wait staff you will find anywhere. They treat you like family whether you are a regular or a first time guest.
They recently converted to a non-smoking establishment, although smoking is still allowed outside.
The bottom line: For some of the best-priced, best-tasting steaks and seafood around Wynndale is the ticket. When a restaurant has been in business for almost 20 years and it's still hard to get a table, it’s obvious they’ve been doing something right.
A rustic, simple, down-home good eating experience is what you will find at Wynndale—yes, it’s steaks on plastic dinnerware, folks. While some may find that tacky, to us it’s all part of their inimitable “plain folks” charm.
