Rebel country

Ah, beautiful Oxford, Miss. — home of the prestigious University of Mississippi, home of Ole Miss Rebels football fever, home of the best music north Mississippi has to offer, and home of one of the prettiest old-school town squares in the south.

These things have contributed to Oxford being named one of USA Today's top six college towns in the nation. Whether you come for football, great music like hometown heroes Blue Mountain and North Mississippi Allstars or for a four-year education, Oxford is clearly one of Mississippi's gems. But did you know that with a wealth of locally-owned eateries, Oxford is a dining destination as well?

Famous franchises like McAlister's, Newk's and Abner's got their start in Oxford, and long-running standbys like The Beacon, Pizza Den and Ajax have become as much a part of the town's allure as anything else. Here's a rundown of some of Oxford's best places to grab a bite.
